Budget 2019

The new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, has announced that he will deliver his first budget on 6 November. However in these uncertain political times, it cannot be assumed that this will definitely go ahead on that date. Even if it does, there are no guarantees that the immediate budget resolutions will be passed by Parliament or that the longer term measures will see the light of day. Leaving aside the possibility that Parliament may have been dissolved pending an election by then, the Chancellor's ministerial statement implies that the proposed Budget date is dependent on the UK leaving the EU with a deal on 31 October. In the event of no-deal, the government would "act quickly" to outline their approach and "take early action to support the economy, businesses and households", with a Budget then following in the weeks thereafter. The timing in the event of the EU granting a further extension and a postponed Brexit is not even contemplated. We will just have to wait and see.
