Boodle Hatfield puts classic car rallying back in drivers’ seat

Law firm Boodle Hatfield’s specialist classic car and historic motor racing team has secured the long-term future of some of the classic car community’s best-loved long-distance and endurance rallying events, including the world-famous Peking to Paris Rally and the Road to Saigon rallies.

Boodle Hatfield partner Rudy Capildeo and associate Fred Clark successfully advised the Historic Endurance Rally Organisation (HERO) on the transfer of the Endurance Rally Association’s (ERA) events programme to HERO. The transfer of events has been widely supported and praised by the classic car world.

The ERA was established in 1988 and organises some 60 epic classic car rallies in over 50 countries. Its rallies include the famous Peking to Paris Rally, the Himalayan Challenge, and the Road to Saigon, which takes to TV screens in August and September in Eight Go Rallying: The Road to Saigon, starring Tinchy Stryder, Martin Kemp, Noel Edmonds and Andi Oliver.

HERO is perhaps best known for its shorter, UK rally events arranged and managed ‘for enthusiasts by enthusiasts’. Its events include the popular Scottish Malts, a tour of Scotland’s iconic whisky distilleries, and the challenging Le Jog Lands End to John O’Groats rally held in mid-December.

The transfer of the ERA’s events will allow HERO to offer an all year programme of both short UK and longer overseas classic car rallies.

Rudy Capildeo said: “ERA was the pioneer of long-distance classic car rallies through its founder Philip Young. Since his passing away in 2015 there has been a question over the long-term future of ERA’s much-loved rallies. The transfer of the events to HERO will give these events a secure long-term future for drivers around the world to enjoy.”

Boodle Hatfield’s classic car and historic motor racing team act for collectors, auction houses and dealers on a wide range of issues affecting classic cars including high value disputes over title, botched restorations and breaches of contract.
