Keep on top of your Companies House filings – Even admin errors can have serious consequences

Companies House records show a "First Gazette notice for compulsory strike-off" was issued against the National Theatre following the filing of its latest accounts after it used the words "The NT" rather than "The Royal National Theatre" in its accounts. The strike-off notice has since been removed from the Companies House website following rectification of the error.

At present, the Companies House Registrar can issue a strike-off notice if it has not received properly completed company documents (such as accounts and/or confirmation statement) that should have been sent to them, mail that the registrar has sent to a company’s registered office is returned undelivered, or if the company has no directors.  It is compulsory for all UK companies to have at least one natural (person) director.  A failure to deliver the necessary documents could result in the directors of an organisation being prosecuted.
