60-second interview with Hayden Bailey TEP

Private Wealth Partner, Hayden Bailey TEP, speaks to STEP about winning the International Legal Team of the Year award in 2022.

What is your role within your firm? I am a Partner in the Private Client & Tax department.

How did it feel to win a STEP Private Client Award (PCA)? I feel great pride for the team and that the work we are doing is recognised by the respected STEP judging panel.

Why is winning a STEP PCA important to your firm? For a firm with a reputation and client base like Boodle Hatfield, it is always excellent to know that we continue to remain at the forefront of legal advice globally, continuing our 300 year tradition as leaders in private wealth, and never taking our status for granted.

What are the main challenges facing your organisation/practitioners at the moment, and how will you deal with them? We have just launched a series of reports entitled Lessons in Legacy. In this series, we explore how attitudes to wealth and legacy have changed over the years. This study highlights how advisors must adapt to ensure their advice is relevant and valuable to each generation. We constantly reflect and reinvent ourselves to ensure we meet the changing needs of our clients.

How will you deal with these challenges? The team at Boodle Hatfield is dynamic and ideas driven. For example, our art team are experts in the emerging world of digital assets. Our philanthropy team are exploring new types of giving to make a direct contribution to society, and our family office teamwork with reputation managers to safeguard our clients’ profile and security.

What do you like best about your job? I get to work with, and be challenged by, colleagues who are the best in the business.

…and what do you feel is most worthwhile? When our ideas can solve a complex problem simply and elegantly.

What would you say to a young person thinking of a career in this industry? Always go for the hard stuff.

Where do you see future growth, both in terms of sectors and jurisdictions? Our reputation as leading family business advisors across jurisdictions is solid. Our Middle East reputation is well established and our US and Latin American work continues to grow. Switzerland remains a key hub for us both in terms of existing clients and new work.
