UK Tax Planning

An ‘outstanding', ‘excellent' and ‘thorough' private client practice which has ‘traditional roots, but is fantastically relevant'. – Legal 500 2009

“quality practitioners” who are “not only extremely competent, but are also able to solve problems and not just quote the law like some other lawyers”. – Legal 500 2008

Lifetime tax planning
We act for clients at every stage of their lives, assisting them personally and in their roles as trustees, directors, managers and owners of land or business. Our tax advice covers inheritance, capital gains and income tax planning and, in particular, strategies for minimising taxes. We suggest the most effective means of passing wealth onto the next generation and advise on the special regimes applicable to heritage property. Partners are able to act as trustees, directors or executors. We have both experience and considerable expertise in the creation of all forms of UK trusts, their use in tax planning and the devolution of family wealth.

Trust administration
The Department is highly experienced in the administration of trusts, handles compliance issues with the Revenue and prepares trust accounts and Income, Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax Returns. We advise on the proper interpretation of trust documents, the duties of trustees and rights of beneficiaries.

Wills, probate and estate administration
We draw up wills and deal with probates of every size, including those involving complex trusts, overseas property and other international issues. Our probate, trust management and tax lawyers (and, in relevant cases, our property teams) work closely together to ensure that planned strategies are achieved in the most tax-efficient fashion. We can also identify opportunities for "after-death tax planning" during the administration of an estate. Although we can help in the most complex matters, we frequently advise clients whose affairs are more straightforward: a will may be the main way in which an individual determines how assets are held for different family members.

Heritage Property
The team regularly advise on issues relating to heritage property and chattels.
